Essex Pub Walks

Billericay - Eastern Circuit Walk

After leaving Billericay near its most northerly point, this walk proceeds in a wide circle through varied countryside to the east of the town, until it re-enters town at its south-eastern corner. It then skirts an ancient area, Norsey Wood (there is an optional circular walk through this Wood), before returning to Billericay’s High Street. It involves a small amount of road walking. Note that some parts of the walk can get muddy after rain.

Use OS Explorer Map 175; alternatively, use the OS Landranger Map 167.

Starts and ends at Billericay rail/bus station on the Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria line - Grid Reference TQ 675950.

Going: Mainly flat, but with a few gradual descents/climbs (Moderate)

Distance: Approximately 9 miles (14.5 Km), excluding optional circular walk in Norsey Wood (this adds around 1 mile).

Places of Interest: Norsey Wood, which has a bronze-age tumulus and an iron-age ride (avenue).

Pubs: There are 8 pubs selling real ale in, and just off of, Billericay High Street at the end of the walk. Most do food until around 2:30 at lunchtime, and again in the evening.
