This walk, between Bradwell Waterside and Tillingham, combines a walk along an old Roman road, a visit to the ancient chapel of St Peter-on-the-wall, a walk along the Blackwater estuary, the village of Bradwell-on-Sea (which is now inland) and the old village of Tillingham.
Use OS Explorer Map 176; alternatively, OS Landranger Map 168.
It commences at Bradwell Waterside - Grid Reference TL 995079 - reached by a train to Southminster (on the London Liverpool Street/Shenfield to Southminster line) and then a D4 bus to Bradwell Waterside and ends at the village of Tillingham - Grid Reference TL 993037 - from which you take a D4 bus from The Square back to Southminster rail station - Grid Reference TQ 996962.
Note that the D4 bus runs infrequently (e.g. 2 to 3 hours between buses), and does not run on Sundays, so please check the bus times before starting - go to
- as at Oct '09, the times of the return buses at Tillingham are at 12:27, 14:07 and 17:22.
Going: Flat (Easy) Distance: Approximately 11 miles (17.7 Km)
