Much of this route follows the River Colne along the Essex Way. It involves a small amount of road walking. Parts of the walk can be muddy at times. The walk covers approximately two-thirds of the Marks Tey to Colchester walk, but the common ground is walked in reverse.
Use Explorer Map 184 for the bulk of the walk and Explorer Map 195 for the end. Alternatively, use OS Landranger Map 168.
Commences at Colchester rail station (on the Liverpool Street to Ipswich / Harwich / Norwich line) - Grid Reference TL 991264 - and ends at Chappel & Wakes Colne rail station (on the branch line from Marks Tey to Sudbury) - Grid Reference TL 897288.
Going: Mainly flat with only a few gradual climbs/descents (Relatively easy)
Distance: Approximately 7 miles.
