This walk, between Great Bentley and Wivenhoe (to the East of Colchester), includes a stretch of the River Colne and its tributary, Alreford Creek. A small amount of road walking is involved.
Use OS Explorer Map 184; alternatively, OS Landranger Map 168.
It commences at Great Bentley rail station (on the London Liverpool Street to Clacton line) - Grid Reference TM 112216 - and ends at the station two stops back towards Colchester, Wivenhoe - Grid Reference TM 036216. Note that it takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to reach Wivenhoe from our starting point, Billericay.
Going: Flat (Easy) - involves a relatively small amount of field walking. Distance: Two variations: approximately 7.0 miles (11.2 Km) & 7.9 miles (12.6 Km)
Place of Interest: Thorrington Tide Mill, half way along the walk.
Pubs: There are pubs in Great Bentley, Thorrington and Wivenhoe.
