February 16th 2010
This walk combines a visit to the old town of Maldon with a combination of a walk along the River Chelmer, a canal, quaysides, boatyards and marinas. It also offers fine views across the River Blackwater estuary. It involves some road walking (mainly in the town).
It starts and ends in the centre of Maldon in the High Street – Grid Reference TL 849071. This is reached by taking a train or bus to Chelmsford and then the number 31 or 31X bus from Chelmsford bus station to the bus stop near All Saints Church on Maldon’s High Street.
Use OS Explorer Map number 183; alternatively, use OS Landranger Map 168.
Going: Easy Distance: Approx. 6.5 miles (10.4 Km) - add a further 1 mile for the optional detour to see Hythe Quay and Promenade Park.
Pubs: There are two pubs on the route in Heybridge Basin and many in Maldon.
