This walk combines a walk along part of the Essex Way to the old wool town of Coggeshall with a scenic walk from Coggeshall to Kelvedon, partly along the bank of the River Blackwater. It involves a relatively small amount of road walking.
Spans OS Explorer Maps 184, 195 and 183. Alternatively, use OS Landranger Map 168.
Commences at Marks Tey rail station (on the Liverpool Street to Ipswich line) - Grid Reference TL 917239 - and ends at Kevedon rail station (one stop towards London) - Grid Reference TL863193.
Going: Flat (Easy) Distance: Approximately 9.5 miles (15.3 Km)
Places of Interest: In Coggeshall there are two places worth a visit - Paycocke's House (see www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-paycockes) and the Old Barns (see www.coggeshall-barn.org.uk/). Check on opening times before visiting.
Pubs: We suggest that you visit one of the pubs in Coggeshall for lunch (approximately 2.5 hours from the start of the walk) and, possibly, one of two pubs in Kelvedon at the end of the walk.
