This is a pretty walk and takes in part of St Peter's Way; it also passes a grove of petrified oak trees near Mundon Hall. It involves some road walking. The walk is well signposted/way-marked along most of its length, but there is a section to the south-east of Mundon Hall where the paths are less distinct and more difficult to follow in the Autumn/Winter after the fields have been ploughed.
Use OS Explorer Map 176 - this is preferable to the equivalent Landranger 168 Map, since the walk involves some field walking and you will need the extra details that the Explorer map provides.
It commences at North Fambridge rail station (on the Shenfield to Southminster line) - Grid Reference TQ 856978 - and ends at the next station along the line, Althorne - Grid Reference TQ 905979. Please note that there is one train an hour in each direction.
Going: Flat - Easy in late Spring and Summer; less so in Autumn/Winter when fields have been ploughed Distance: Approximately 9.5 miles (15.3 Km)
Pubs: We suggest that you visit either the White Horse pub in Mundon (approximately half way round the walk) or/and one of the pubs near/in Althorne - the Huntsman and Hounds and the Black Lion - go to the walk details by clicking on the relevant button at the foot of this page.
