This relatively long walk follows several of the creeks on the north bank of the River Crouch, as well as the river itself, before heading inland through pretty countryside.
Use OS Explorer Map 175 - this is preferable to the equivalent Landranger 168 Map, since the walk involves some field walking and you will need the extra details that the Explorer map provides.
It commences at South Woodham Ferrers Railway Station (on the Shenfield to Southminster line) – Grid Reference TQ 804977 - and finishes at North Fambridge rail station - Grid Reference TQ 856978 – one stop further up the line.
Going: Mainly flat, with a couple of gradual ascents/descents on the inland section (Easy).
Distance approx. 12 miles (19.2 Km) – 13.8 miles if you include the optional trip to the Ferry Boat Inn at North Fambridge.
Pubs: There is a pub at Stow Maries (a short detour from the walk two-thirds of the way along its route) and another at North Fambridge.
