Pleshey Castle
This walk follows the Essex Way from the west and takes in the pretty villages of Pleshey, with its old ruined Norman castle, and Great Waltham, where it ends. Note that a few of the bridleways/tracks it follows can get very muddy after rain. Whilst there is a little road walking, this is along quiet country lanes.
Use OS Explorer Map 183; alternatively, use the OS Landranger Map 167.
The walk starts at the A1060 Chelmsford Road at Salt’s Green (Grid Reference TL 622108), which is reached by taking the number 59 bus from Chelmsford bus station. The end of the walk is in the village of Great Waltham (Grid Reference TL 695134).
Going: Mainly flat (Easy)
Distance: Approximately 7.5 miles (12 Km)
Pubs: There are pubs in Pleshey and Great Waltham.
