This walk starts in the village of Stock and heads west along St Peter’s Way to the pretty forest-surrounded village of Mill Green. You then have two options - the first is to proceed to Ingatestone village to take a train home (this route involves some road walking between Mill Green and Ingatestone); the second is to walk to the pretty village of Blackmore, from where you take a bus home.
Use OS Explorer Maps 175 and 183; alternatively, use the OS Landranger Map 167.
Starts at a bus stop at the northern end of Stock village - Grid Reference TQ 690990 - and ends either at Ingatestone rail station - Grid Reference TQ 650992 - or at Blackmore - TQ604019.
Going: Mainly flat (Easy). However, this walk has a disproportionately large number of stiles for its length.
Distance: Via Ingatestone, approximately 6.8 miles (12.2 Km); Via Blackmore, approxximately 8.4 miles (13. Km).
Pubs: There are pubs in Mill Green, Margaretting, Ingatestone and Blackmore. Most do food between 12 and 2pm at lunchtime, and again in the evening. Some close in the afternoon. There is also a nice pub in Margaretting Tye (a detour of around 10 minutes from the route).
