Essex Pub Walks

A series of walks in the Essex countryside accessible via public transport

Sudbury & Long Melford Walk

Although just over the border in Suffolk, this circular route from Sudbury rail station is worth doing as it combines a beautiful walk along the upper stretch of the River Stour, a stop in the pretty village of Long Melford and then a walk south through the countryside before reaching Sudbury again. It involves a small amount of road walking in Long Melford (but only if you stop for drinks here) and at the end of the walk.

Starts and ends at Sudbury Railway Station (Grid reference: TL 877411) on the branch line from Marks Tey to Sudbury (Marks Tey is on the London Liverpool Street to Colchester/Ipswich main line). Note that the trains on the branch line are hourly.

Use OS Explorer Map 196.

Going: Flat (Easy) Distance approximately 9.1 miles.

Pubs: There are many pubs in both Long Melford and Sudbury - See Walk Details.
