Starting at Wrabness, this walk follows a section of the Essex Way along the south bank of the estuary of the River Stour, taking in the town of Mistley before finishing in Manningtree. It involves a fair amount of road walking, the majority of which is at the end of the walk, but the other sections offer views that make up for this.
Use OS Explorer Map 184; alternatively, OS Landranger Map 168.
The walk commences at Wrabness rail station (on the London Liverpool Street to Harwich line) - Grid Reference TM 181316 - and finishes at Manningtree rail station (on the London Liverpool Street to Ipswich & Harwich line) - Grid reference TM 094322. Note that it takes over 1 hour to reach Wrabness from our normal starting point, Billericay.
Going: Flat (Easy) Distance: Approximately 7.6 miles (12.2 Km)
Pubs: Although there are pubs in villages on the way (Bradfield and Mistley Heath), these do not appear to open at lunchtimes during mid-week and you will need to wait to Mistley and Manningtree near the end of the walk - see Walk Details.
If a shorter walk is required, whilst still seeing the Stour estuary, you can finish the walk at Mistley station - Grid Reference TM 118317.
